Driving for Kids 2018 - The Route
Day One, Saturday September 22nd:
After continental breakfast and driver orientation, depart at 9:30 from Garden of the Gods Trading post on Highway 24 up through Ute Pass to our turning past Lake George for a magical run up the Tarryall road to Jefferson. We turn west on US 285 to Como and over Red Hill Pass on to Fairplay for lunch at a cool new place. After lunch, we drive north on Co 9 to Frisco and a rest stop, then turn onto I-70 along the Colorado River to the high point of the day; a visit to the Roundup River Ranch and to meet the kids there. They are really going to be excited with all the cool cars and we hope you will be excited to let them sit in and ask questions about your cars while you ask questions about them. We expect to spend about an hour and a half at the ranch. After our visit we proceed south on Colorado River Road back to I-70 then west through the gorgeous Glenwood Canyon to our dinner and overnight lodging in Glenwood Springs, CO.
Day Two, Sunday September 23rd:
Depart about 9:30 on I-70 to DeBeque and turn south on the weirdly named, but oh so fun, 45 ½ road, then over the Grand Mesa with its spectacular scenery. After a meander on the Mesa we’ll head down through Cedaredge and Hotchkiss to lunch in Crawford where we‘ll return to a very special place. After lunch we will take CO 92 along the north rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison to revisit what may be the best sports car road in Colorado but will have to defer to the Grand Mesa for the best views. Or not. Turning east on US 50 we head past the Blue Mesa Reservoir’s sparkling water to our overnight lodging and dinner in Gunnison, CO.
Day Three, Monday September 24th:
Depart about 9:30 on US 50 about 20 miles to Co 114 a magical road that leads to Saguache and our rest stop. From there we head east and north on wide open US 285 where you can stretch your car a bit to Poncha Springs, then continue north to Buena Vista to our lunch stop and awards presentation. After lunch, we head east on US 24 and US 285 back to Denver.
